Over 23,000 samples have been tested using this assay and Trofile™ is regarded as the gold standard in tropism testing.
All trials of co-receptor antagonists have used Trofile in the clinical development.
Trofile has been shown to be accurate, precise, sensitive, reproducible and robust in the measurement of HIV-1 co-receptor tropism.
Know your patient's Tropotype™ before prescribing a CCR5 antagonist

- Trofile identifies the tropism of an individual patient's HIV strain – R5, X4, or a combination of these known as dual/mixed (D/M)13
- Identifying tropism is important for completing your patient's HIV profile
Announcing a new benchmark for HIV tropism identification13
- Highly accurate, reproducible results using the complete HIV envelope (gp160)
- Sensitivity to detect minority variant populations
– 100% when X4 virus = 10%
–85% when X4 virus = 5%
- Successful amplification and reliable results with viral load ≥1,000 copies/mL
- Specificity of 100% demonstrated by analyzing 38 previously characterized samples from the AIDS repository
- Validated according to CLIA for performance characteristics and quality control
How does Trofile™ work?
Trofile is a single-cycle recombinant virus assay in which a pseudovirus is generated from full length envelope (env) genes derived from the patient’s virus population. The complete envelope is used to determine viral tropism taking into account determinants that lie outside the V3 loop.
